What We Do – Identify Health Disparities
The goal of the Health Disparities Work Group is to eliminate disparities in child and adult immunization rates among California residents. To accomplish this, the Work Group is engaged in a diverse range of consumer and provider activities.
- The Committee is working to increase awareness about health disparities by providing articles for CIC’s Newsletter, co-hosting CIC Educational Hour calls that are open to stakeholders throughout the state, and designing and testing culturally-appropriate messages that promote immunization in our ethnic communities.
- The Committee is partnering with the statewide Network of Ethnic Physician Organizations to raise awareness about ethnic disparities and promote evidence-based strategies for improving immunization rate in physician practices.
- In 2007, the group developed a promotora factsheet, which raises awareness about the role of promotora (health promoter) programs in increasing immunization coverage levels in California’s ethnic communities.
- The Work Group has created web pages that highlight resources that support the implementation of campaigns that improve immunization rates in the African American community.
If you would like to collaborate with stakeholders from across California to reduce ethnic disparities in immunization rates, please contact Julia Heinzerling at jheinzerling@ph.lacounty.gov or at (213) 351-7479.
