Medical Exemption Access Launched For CA Providers
The CDPH Immunization Branch has launched the new registry website for managing physician generated medical exemptions from school required vaccinations.
In 2019, State Senator Richard Pan, MD, authored an important bill to require that only licensed physicians can write medical exemptions from vaccination and further required that the California Department of Public Health develop an online system to facilitate and store this information for providers, schools and parents by January 2021.
Amidst all of the other public health challenges we have experienced this past year, the California Immunization Registry (CAIR) team made it happen on time. To learn more about the new law go to ShotsForSchool.org . To learn about implementation of new procedure go to CAIR Medical Exemptions- School and Childcare site for more information about registration for providers.
A webinar for healthcare providers was held on January 26th to explain how to register and use the new system for issuing, managing and tracking medical exemptions. Rebroadcast information will be posted shortly. Additional information will be made available to school nurses and child care administrators in the weeks ahead.
