The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) and the National Vaccine Advisory Committee (NVAC) endorse pharmacists as complementary vaccine providers, and recent policy changes enacted in California further support pharmacists as vaccinators. Many pharmacists now offer routinely recommended vaccines to children, adolescents, and adults. This can help to improve immunization access, and can be especially valuable in communities where primary and preventive care services are limited. An estimated 90% of Americans live within 5 miles of a pharmacy and many pharmacists offer extended hours and walk-in services. Some pharmacies have also developed programs to provide vaccinations at community and employer sites.
